Program Description
The BYU archaeological field school introduces students to archaeological field work, both survey and excavation, and equips them with tools needed to document archaeological data and resolve problems encountered during field work. This class follows Anthropology 454R, Field School Preparation, which is the planning portion of the Field School, and is a pre-requisite to Anthropology 456R, Lab Skills. The field school occurs during spring term each year and requires students to live away from the university in a field camp setting. These three courses constitute the capstone sequence for students in the Archaeology Emphasis in the Department of Anthropology.
The field schools held in Utah and Arizona focus on the Great Basin and Southwest cultures of the Fremont and Anasazi.
