I am a linguistic anthropologist of education working in the Department of Anthropology at Brigham Young University. In my work I study the processes of being and becoming as they happen in human pedagogical interactions. In this work I understand the kinds of social action that promote learning in small scale human interactions (e.g., tutoring or classroom learning). My research has included ethnographic research with tutoring programs for low-income African-American high schoolers on the south side of Chicago, ethnographic research with low-income Latino elementary school kids in Provo, Utah, and ethnographic research in elementary schools in Seoul, South Korea.
