The department hires students for various positions with the goal of providing employment that expands students' experiences. We hire numerous teaching assistants each semester, especially for our introductory courses. Faculty also hire majors and graduate students as research assistants to work on various projects.
Museum of Peoples and Cultures

The museum is an excellent resource for students interested in museum studies, public outreach, or research focused on the many artifacts curated there. Positions include education specialists, curation assistants, archivists, graphic designers, and administrative assistants. Volunteering at the museum is a great way to get acquainted with the staff and the many opportunities for employment.

OPA is BYU's contract archaeology firm that engages in real-world projects for clients such as the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, various state agencies, as well as city governments. Students are often hired to work on archaeological survey and excavation projects and to help write reports for these projects.
